13 Nov BENEATH THE BUTTERFLY – LUPUS AWARENESS MONTH PERFORMANCE
At BAP Theatre Group, we recently had the privilege of performing Simpson Franco’s Beneath the Butterfly at The Lupus Hub’s Black History Month event. This powerful piece allowed us to highlight the strength, resilience, and challenges faced by those living with lupus, an often-overlooked autoimmune disease. Through this performance, we aimed to bring the realities of lupus to light, especially within Black communities where awareness and diagnosis can sometimes be limited. The Lupus Hub’s mission of education and advocacy resonated deeply with us, making it an honor to support their important work through storytelling.
Beneath the Butterfly was not only a celebration of Black history but also a call to understand the physical and emotional experiences of lupus warriors. For many, lupus brings pain and fatigue, affecting various parts of the body and often remaining invisible to others. We hope that our performance encouraged compassion, awareness, and support for those impacted by this chronic illness. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the event.
